The Special Tactics Squadrons are an amalgamation of Combat Controllers, Pararescue, and Combat Weather Teams. In an effort to streamline tasking of units, separate groups from each team are attached to a larger task force to supply support for that forces mission. They are responsible for providing US forces with a bridge between airborne assets and land-based operations.
Members from each separate team perfrom within their specialty as part of a larger task force. While the Combat Controllers are preparing an LZ or guiding in traffic, the Combat Weather team members will be relaying weather information as the Pararescue members take care of casualties. Members of the separate teams can also be dispatched to augment a single Special forces group on a specifac mission (such as the Combat Controllers who were dispatched with the US Navy SEALs on their assault on Patilla Airfield during the Invasion od Panama).
